Why Flamenco Beach?

But why does Flamenco Beach outshine many others? The answer is its breathtaking beauty, characterized by a perfect crescent of soft, white sand bordered by crystal-clear turquoise waters, set against a backdrop of lush green hills. It also has some interesting history with the US military, as seen from the tanks used as target practice that still lie on the beach. You can read more about the military history of the Spanish Virgin Islands here.

The beach's gentle waters are protected by coral reefs, providing a safe and serene swimming area that's perfect for visitors of all ages.

Where is Flamenco Beach?

Flamenco Beach is situated on the northern coast of Culebra. I've anchored directly in front of the beach, on the south east side, but skippers should be careful of marine conditions. If the trade winds are blowing strongly, the anchorage will be quite rolly. If a northerly swell is forecast, definitely avoid the anchorage.

What to Do in Flamenco Beach

  • Snorkeling: The clear waters and coral reefs make Flamenco Beach an ideal spot for snorkeling, offering a chance to observe a diverse marine life up close.
  • Sunbathing and Relaxation: The expansive, powdery sand offers ample space for sunbathing, relaxation, and beach games. Enjoy the beautiful view.
  • Grab a Bite and a Cheap Medalla: Local vendors operate kiosks right off the beach and sell delicious food and cheap beer.
  • Take Your Picture with the Tanks: There are a few old tanks scattered throughout the area. Grab a picture with the one in the surf towards the western end of the beach.
