Where are the Coral Gardens Located?
Anchoring and Accessing the Coral Gardens
- Anchoring to the North of Motu Tautau: Anchor in 4 to 10 feet of sandy ground. Catamarans can anchor on the shelf while monohulls should anchor on the edge between the sandy shelf and deeper waters.
- Navigational Caution: The anchorage is suitable for day use, especially in steady conditions with winds under 15 knots. For overnight stays, it’s recommended to use mooring balls in nearby bays like Vaiorea, Tapuamu, or Tiva.
Activities and Attractions at the Coral Gardens
- Snorkeling: The clear waters are perfect for snorkeling. You’ll encounter a variety of marine life, including colorful fish, vibrant corals, and sometimes even rays and small sharks. Be advised that some crews have recently reported that the coral bleached or dead. It's a good idea to check with locals about the condition.
- Exploration by Dinghy: Use your dinghy to reach the Coral Gardens from your anchored spot. The southern part of Motu Tautau and the area just north of the three motus offer excellent snorkeling spots.
- Relaxation and Scenery: Enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding motus and the beautiful clear waters. It’s a perfect place to relax and soak in the natural beauty.
