Where is Vaitape Located?
Anchoring and Accessing Vaitape
- Anchor in the Lagoon Near Vaitape: The lagoon offers good anchorage with sandy bottoms. Make sure to anchor in designated areas to protect local marine life.
- Use Your Dinghy: Once anchored, hop in your dinghy and head to the main dock in Vaitape. Be aware that the Vaitape dock is not recommended for leaving dinghies unattended due to safety concerns and theft reports. It is advised to use the Bora Bora Yacht Club or Makai marina for secure mooring and then dinghy to the village.
Activities and Attractions in Vaitape
- Shopping: Check out local markets and shops where you can find everything from souvenirs to fresh produce. Be sure to pick up some local handicrafts and pearls.
- Dining: Enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants and cafes offering local Polynesian cuisine and international dishes. The lagoon views from some of these spots are unbeatable.
- Cultural Experiences: Visit local landmarks such as the Alain Gerbault Memorial and the Protestant Church. Chat with the friendly locals and learn about the island’s rich history and traditions.
- Provisioning: Vaitape is a great spot to restock your boat. You’ll find several grocery stores and a central market where you can get fresh fruits, vegetables, and other essentials.
