We love to stop at Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island for lunch on our way back from Anegada while completing a counterclockwise loop. Located on the northwest part of Guana Island, Muskmelon Bay is part of a very private luxury resort and nature sanctuary. This spot is incredibly picturesque and teeming with marine life.

Scenic Beauty and Marine Life

The cliffs near the anchorage site create a stunning backdrop, making Muskmelon Bay a true BVI secret. The well-developed coral reefs attract plenty of baitfish, which in turn brings an array of birds. Even if you're not into bird watching, it's a thrilling experience to see them diving for fish at close range.
The anchoring area is quite small, make sure to drop the hook on sand

Snorkeling Adventure

You'll definitely want to hop in for a snorkel. You won't have to swim far from the yacht to see lots of fish, rays, and a few turtles on most days. The underwater scenery is just as impressive as the view above, offering a vibrant and diverse marine ecosystem.

Muskmelon Bay Anchoring Guide

Muskmelon Bay is best suited for day anchoring and there are no moorings available. The anchoring area is quite small, so if another boat is already there, it's best to move on. I don't like to spend the night here because of the proximity to shore and how you can be backwinded in fresh trade winds.

Anchoring tips for Muskmelon Bay

  • Drop your anchor in the patch of sand about 400 feet south of the rocky beach visible on satellite in the northeast corner of the bay.
  • You'll be fairly close to shore.
  • Backwinding is a concern here, which is why overnight anchoring is not recommended unless conditions are very calm. If you're unfamiliar with backwinding, check out our BVI weather post for more information.
Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and underwater adventures, making it a must-visit spot on your BVI itinerary. Read about some of my other favorite BVI anchorages in this post.
