Hatchet Caye, rebranded as Ray Caye, is a stunning island retreat in Belize, offering an elegant resort experience combined with well-maintained moorings for visiting yachts. Known for its crystal-clear waters and lush surroundings, Ray Caye is an ideal stop for sailors exploring the Belizean coast. The island's rebranding reflects its connection with the local marine life, particularly the friendly Spotted Eagle Rays that frequent the area.

Moorings and Anchorage at Ray Caye

Ray Caye offers six mooring balls strategically placed around the island, ensuring protection under various wind conditions. Five of these moorings are located in deeper waters (25-40 feet) around the island, providing secure spots for yachts of different sizes. There is also an inner mooring inside the reef, accessible through a marked channel, suitable for vessels with less than a 3-foot draft. The mooring fees are $15 per night for the outer balls and $25 per night for the inner reef mooring, which can be paid at the Pirate Reef Dive Shop on the island.

Anchoring around Ray Caye can be challenging due to the deep waters and coral ridges. It's crucial to avoid anchoring on the coral to protect the delicate marine ecosystem. The mooring balls offer a safe and convenient alternative for those looking to spend the night at this beautiful location.

Dining and Resort Amenities

The resort on Ray Caye is renowned for its exceptional hospitality and top-notch dining experience. The Lionfish Grill, located within the resort, offers delicious meals made from fresh seafood and locally sourced ingredients. Daytrippers are welcome to dine at the restaurant, though reservations are recommended, especially for dinner. Visitors can also enjoy a complimentary happy hour snack and WiFi with the purchase of a cocktail.

Ray Caye is equipped with various amenities, including a freshwater pool accessible to daytrippers, a dive shop offering snorkeling and diving tours, and provisions like fresh baked bread, water, and ice available for purchase. The island also features a newly built welcome center, an expanded organic garden, and additional recreational facilities, such as a spa, gym, and yoga deck, all designed to enhance the guest experience.
