Matt's Take
About the Sun Loft 47
The Sun Loft 47 is a unique boat designed with charter groups in mind. Nicknamed a "monocat," it combines features from both monohulls and catamarans. It’s a perfect option for larger groups or charterers looking for a social, open-deck layout at a lower price than catamarans. The design focuses on maximizing outdoor space, with all living areas like the galley and seating placed topside, leaving the lower deck almost entirely for cabins and heads. With six double cabins and a skipper's cabin, it comfortably accommodates up to 12 people.
The open cockpit is ideal for socializing, with two large tables that can convert into daybeds and enough space for everyone to be part of the action, including the cook. Performance-wise, it’s more about simple cruising than sporty sailing. With in-mast furling, a self-tacking jib, and a relatively lightweight build, it's a great charter option for easy handling. One downside is the lack of a traditional chart table, as navigation relies on apps used on tablets and phones.
