Matt's Take

About the Lagoon 380

The Lagoon 380 is one of the older and smaller models in the Lagoon lineup, first introduced in 1999 and produced until 2019. It was a staple in many charter fleets for years due to its simplicity, ease of handling, and affordability. These boats are still available in some budget-friendly charters, but they're becoming less common as newer models have taken over. The Lagoon 380 is known for its spacious layout relative to its size, especially in the saloon, which features vertical windows for better views and light. However, it lacks the performance of more modern models, particularly in light winds, and doesn’t point well upwind.

Despite these trade-offs, it’s a very forgiving boat, ideal for novice skippers or families looking for an affordable option. The small sail plan and simple rigging make it easy to manage, and all lines lead to the cockpit for safe and straightforward sail handling. That said, the older versions with soft biminis and smaller storage options may feel dated. If you're after a no-fuss, budget-friendly catamaran that’s safe and comfortable for casual cruising, the Lagoon 380 is still a solid option, though it's worth considering upgrades if newer models are available in your price range.
