The Destination
The BVI is hands-down the best place in the Caribbean for a crewed yacht charter — and I say that after 15+ years of sailing these islands. The weather is predictable, the trade winds are steady, and the distances between stops are short enough that you're never spending the whole day at sea.
There are over 60 islands and cays to explore, most of them uninhabited. You'll anchor in turquoise water so clear you can see the bottom at 30 feet, snorkel reefs that are teeming with life, and hit legendary beach bars like the Soggy Dollar and Willy T. The BVI has a well-established charter industry with mooring fields, national parks, and a community of experienced crews who know every anchorage.
Why first-timers love it: The sailing is protected (no open ocean crossings), the anchorages are well-marked, and there's an incredible variety packed into a small area. You can snorkel the Caves at Norman Island in the morning, hike to the Bubbly Pool on Jost Van Dyke by lunch, and watch the sunset from a floating bar — all in the same day.
When to go: Peak season runs November through July, with the most popular months being December through April. The trade winds are steadiest in winter, and the water is warm year-round (78-84°F). Read more about the best time to visit the BVI.
Life Aboard
Your private yacht charter is designed to be effortless — just step aboard and enjoy. With a dedicated crew taking care of every detail, all you need to do is relax, explore, and indulge.
A Custom Experience: Your itinerary is tailored to your preferences — secluded beaches, lively beach bars, snorkeling, and more. Want to spend the morning diving and the afternoon at the Soggy Dollar? Done. Want to skip the tourist spots entirely? Your captain knows the hidden gems.
Luxury & Privacy: Your yacht is a floating oasis, offering complete exclusivity away from crowded resorts. No fighting for pool chairs. No buffet lines. Just your group, your crew, and the open water.
Incredible Meals: Your private chef prepares gourmet meals customized to your group's preferences and dietary needs — from fresh-caught fish to five-star dinners under the stars. Learn more about what to expect on a crewed charter.
Your crew is the heart of the charter experience. These are seasoned professionals who love what they do — and it shows.
A yacht is both a luxury retreat and a working vessel. These simple guidelines help ensure a smooth trip for everyone:

What It Costs
Crewed catamaran charter pricing in the BVI varies based on the yacht, time of year, and charter length. Here's what to expect so there are no surprises.
Most crewed catamarans in the BVI are all-inclusive, meaning one price covers everything: the yacht, crew, all meals and drinks, water sports equipment, fuel, and cruising permits. For a week-long charter on a catamaran accommodating 6-10 guests, expect to pay $25,000 - $100,000+ depending on the yacht. See our full crewed charter pricing breakdown.
Larger motor yachts and premium sailing yachts typically use a "plus expenses" model. You pay a base rate for the yacht and crew, plus an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) — typically 25-40% of the base charter fee — which covers fuel, food, beverages, dockage, and other running costs. Any unused APA is refunded at the end of the trip.
For most Caribbean charters, everything you need for a seamless trip is included:
Even with an all-inclusive package, a few things may come at an extra cost:
Your crew works hard to ensure an unforgettable experience, and tipping is the best way to show appreciation.
How Much to Tip? — The industry standard is 15-20% of the charter cost in the Caribbean. In Europe, 10-15% is standard.
When to Tip? — Gratuities should be given directly to the crew before disembarking on your final day.
How to Tip? — Most crews accept PayPal, CashApp, or cash in USD. If we are aware of the crew's preference, we will share that with you.
A Sample Week
This is one of our most popular crewed catamaran charter routes — designed to showcase the best of the British Virgin Islands, from the top beaches to the best snorkeling and beach bars. Your actual itinerary can be fully customized based on your preferences, weather, and your captain's recommendations.
Crewed Itinerary · British Virgin Islands
This is the full BVI loop — a 7-day round-trip from Tortola that hits nearly every iconic stop in the islands: Norman Island and the Caves, The Baths at Virgin Gorda, the North Sound, the north shore of Tortola, the beach bars of Jost Van Dyke, Peter Island, and the snorkeling at The Indians. With a professional captain and private chef aboard, the route, the provisioning, and the helm are handled — you wake up somewhere new each morning and decide how much you want to do. It's the itinerary we point most first-timers to, and the only marquee anchorage it leaves out is Anegada, an easy add if you have the extra days.
Most BVI yacht charters follow some version of this loop, and there's a reason: the Sir Francis Drake Channel keeps you in protected water with a steady 15–20 knot trade wind on the beam, and the iconic anchorages — Norman Island, The Baths at Virgin Gorda, the North Sound, White Bay on Jost Van Dyke — are all within an easy day's sail of each other. Distance for the week runs about 75 nautical miles total.
We've shaped this BVI sailing itinerary as a 7-day round-trip from Tortola so first-timers can hit every iconic stop without rushing — long mornings at anchor, lunch underway, an afternoon snorkel, and a chef-prepared dinner most nights. If you've sailed the BVI before and want something different, we also build five-day and four-day variants, and a USVI/BVI hybrid that picks up in St. Thomas. Every BVI yacht charter we send is custom-tailored to your group's pace and dates.

Known for its intriguing pirate lore and tranquil beauty, Norman Island offers a variety of ways to start your trip. Your crew will get an early start to secure an anchorage spot right in front of the world-famous Soggy Dollar Bar. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of this iconic location. Swim ashore or let your crew take you in the tender, and sip on the bar's signature invention, the Painkiller. Explore other nearby beach bars, or browse the Soggy Dollar's boutique for unique souvenirs.
After lunch aboard your yacht—or ashore if you prefer—we'll set sail toward Tortola, passing by the picturesque shores of nearby St. John. Your next destination is Peter Island's tranquil Little Harbour, where your yacht will be secured with a stern tie anchorage just feet from the shoreline. Spend the rest of the day floating, swimming, and unwinding in this peaceful setting. End the evening with cocktails, a delicious dinner, and a breathtaking sunset over the turquoise waters.

Before You Go
Packing for a crewed catamaran charter in the BVI is simple — your yacht comes fully stocked with essentials, and your crew takes care of all the details. You'll spend most of your time in swimwear and casual clothing, so pack light and focus on comfort.
Soft duffels are preferred but not required. Depending on your yacht, storage space can be limited.
Less is more! — Your days will be spent on the water, so you won't need many outfits.
Most toiletries are provided, but bring personal must-haves.
Swimwear — Pack 3-4 swimsuits, since you'll spend most of your time in and out of the water.
2-3 Hooded Long-Sleeve UPF Shirts — Perfect for sun protection when you're out on the water.
Casual daytime wear — Tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, sundresses.
Evening attire — Lightweight, breezy outfits for dinners onboard or onshore.
Light sweater or windbreaker — Evenings can feel cool with the sea breeze.
Theme night outfit (optional) — If your group enjoys a little fun, bring something for a luau, 80s night, or pirate party.
Flip-flops / sandals — Ideal for shore excursions.
Soft-soled shoes — If you plan to hike or explore on land. You may also prefer a pair of water shoes.
Polarized sunglasses — Essential for reducing glare on the water (bring a backup pair!).
Hat — A packable dad hat or wide-brim hat for sun protection.
Dry bag (if you have one) — If not, the crew will help keep valuables protected.
Yachts have a no-shoes policy to keep the decks clean and prevent dirt from getting tracked aboard. You'll be asked to remove your shoes before stepping aboard — just a heads-up so you're prepared! Barefoot is the way to go.
Reef-safe sunscreen — (lotion only, no spray!) — Protect yourself and the reefs.
Aloe vera or after-sun lotion — Helpful if you get too much sun.
Lip balm with SPF — A small but critical item.
Shampoo, conditioner & body wash — Yachts will provide, but bring your own if you have a preference.
Toothbrush, toothpaste, and personal toiletries — Keep it minimal.
Bug spray — Not always needed, but useful just in case. Your yacht will likely have some in case you'd prefer not to bring your own.
Motion sickness medication — If you're prone to seasickness, bring non-drowsy Dramamine or SeaBands.
GoPro or underwater camera — Capture epic snorkeling and beach moments.
Books and magazines — A good book is perfect for relaxing on deck.
Music playlists downloaded offline — In case of weak WiFi or cellular service.
Charging cables & power bank — Don't forget your charging essentials. The yacht will have USB plugs and any adapters if necessary.
Snorkel gear, fins, or water toys — The yacht has everything you need.
Fishing gear — Unless specifically requested, the yacht will provide it.
Hard suitcases — Soft duffels are easier to store.
Heavy shoes or boat shoes — You'll be barefoot onboard!
Towels — The yacht provides bath and beach towels.
Flashlight or waterproof phone case — The crew will handle nighttime navigation.
Logistics
There are a couple of ways to get to the BVI for your crewed yacht charter, and the best option depends on your schedule and budget. Here's what you need to know.
Tortola's Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) has limited direct flights — mainly from San Juan (PR), St. Thomas (USVI), and Antigua. If you can find a connection that works, this is the most convenient option since you'll already be on the island where most charters depart.
This is the most popular route. St. Thomas has a full-service international airport with direct flights from most major US cities. From there, you have two options to get to Tortola:
The BVI is a British Overseas Territory — you'll need a valid passport to enter, even if you're coming from the US Virgin Islands. Make sure everyone in your group has theirs before you travel.

Another Way to Charter
Not ready for a full crew but want more than a bareboat? A captain-only charter is the perfect middle ground. You get the expertise of a professional captain without the full crew — think of it as having a knowledgeable local guide who also happens to be an expert sailor.
Your captain handles navigation, anchoring, and safety while also serving as your personal concierge for the islands. They'll recommend the best snorkeling spots, help with provisioning, coordinate water sports, and share local knowledge you won't find in any guidebook.
Captain-only charters are a great option for groups who enjoy cooking together, want a more hands-on experience, or are looking for a more budget-friendly way to enjoy the BVI with professional guidance.
For the Trip
No yacht trip is complete without the right playlist. We've fine-tuned the ultimate soundtrack to match every moment on board. Whether you're hoisting the sails, easing into the morning, or setting the vibe for a sunset cocktail hour, these playlists have you covered.
Summertime Steel Drums – A great morning playlist to gently wake up your group and set the tone for another perfect day in paradise.
Yacht Warriors Rock – Over a decade in the making, this playlist is perfect for cruising with the sails up. Think feel-good rock, classics, and smooth sailing vibes.
Buena Vista Social Club Radio – Some Latin beats to set the evening mood, whether you're enjoying a sunset cocktail or a lively onboard dinner.
