A charter where a licensed captain handles the yacht — navigation, anchoring, safety, local knowledge — but there's no chef or steward aboard, so you handle provisioning and meals. It sits between a bareboat, where you run everything, and a fully crewed charter, where the crew runs everything.

Do I need any sailing experience?

None. The captain is fully responsible for running the yacht. If you want to take the helm or learn to trim sails, most captains are happy to teach — and if you'd rather just enjoy the ride, that works too.

Who handles the cooking and provisioning?

You do — that's the tradeoff that makes the rate attractive. Most groups have provisioning delivered to the yacht before departure and mix galley dinners with meals ashore. Plan to provision for your captain as well; that's standard practice on captain-only charters.

How much does it cost compared to a fully crewed charter?
