Getting to Compass Cay
You will swing on the current in this anchorage, so ensure your scope and swinging room if other boats are present.
What to do in Compass Cay
- Crescent Beach: Crescent Beach on Compass Cay is renowned for its beauty. After paying a landing fee at the marina, a short 10-minute hike leads you to this picturesque white sand beach. On our December Exumas trip, we found Crescent Beach to be one of the finest beaches in the Exumas, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view.
- Exploring the Island: Compass Cay offers a chance to explore ashore. The marina has a small store, a lunch-only restaurant, and provides ice. We hung out on the beach cabanas, cracked a few beers, and enjoyed the view of a full rainbow to our east. More details can be found in our post about the Top Exuma Anchorages.
- Nurse Sharks: The marina at Compass Cay is famous for its friendly nurse sharks. Visitors can swim with these gentle creatures, making it a highlight for many. Back at our yacht, one of them paid us a visit and hung out for nearly an hour.
- Hiking and Scenic Views: The short hike to Crescent Beach offers stunning views and a serene environment. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the peaceful atmosphere of the island.
