CAPTAIN: Hein Van Eeden
CHEF/FIRST MATE: Nicola Alberts
Captain Hein van Eeden is an RYA Yachtmaster with over three seasons of successful Caribbean charters. His mission is simple - to transform every luxury charter into an unforgettable, high-energy adventure tailored completely to his guests' preference and pace.
Hein's passion for the ocean began in South Africa, where he grew up in a small town before moving to one of the country's premier sailing hubs. For five years, he managed houseboats and ran day charters - guiding guests on coastal dives, whale watching tours, and seal snorkeling safaris. He also managed an upbeat, high-energy restaurant, where he mastered the art of premium, five-star hospitality.
Today, Hein combines that experience to deliver seamless service on the water. As a certified Dive Master with over 500 logged dives, he loves guiding guests through vibrant, hidden coral reefs. For those who prefer surface thrills, Hein is always ready to get guests up on a wakeboard, paddleboard, or tube. Back on deck, he steps into his role as a master mixologist, crafting bespoke cocktails designed around everyone's favourites.
Nicola was raised in Cape Town, South Africa, where her passion for food was cultivated from an early age alongside her father in the family kitchen. It was there that she developed an appreciation for the art of cooking, thoughtful presentation, and the way exceptional meals bring people together. Growing up surrounded by mountains and ocean, she also developed a deep love for adventure, travel, and the outdoors.
Although Nicola initially pursued studies in Environmental Sciences, she soon realized her true calling lay in the culinary world. This discovery led her into hospitality and ultimately to a career as a yacht chef, where she combined her love of food, travel, and creating memorable experiences for others. Her journey has taken her from the Mediterranean to the beautiful waters of the Virgin Islands where she has chartered for the past 2 seasons,
Known for her warm hospitality, attention to detail, and creative approach to cuisine, Nicola takes great pride in crafting fresh, flavorful menus tailored to your preferences. Whether sourcing local ingredients, preparing elegant multi-course dinners, or creating relaxed beachside lunches, she is dedicated to ensuring every meal becomes a memorable part of the charter experience.
Together, Hein and Nicola look forward to welcoming you aboard Sashalon and creating an unforgettable Virgin Islands adventure filled with exceptional service, incredible cuisine, and memories to last a lifetime.
Hein’s knowledge of sailing, diving, water sports, and mixology was truly appreciated—he kept us entertained the entire trip with tons of laughs.
Nicola, your culinary skill and hospitality were unmatched, and we loved your warm welcome at each new location. We ate so well and had so much fun every single day!
Some core memories include: Mokes on Anegada, snorkeling at the caves, getting dumped on at the lobster trap, and tarpon feeding at Saba Rock. Don't forget when we beat you at pool at Tipsy's!
